Road Trippin' it with Dad

After Christmas in California, my dad and I had a job to do... drive my new Honda Accord from Sacramento to Guelph.
We dropped mom off at the Sacramento airport, and a few hours later dropped Lisa off. After a very short trip we came back to the airport to return Lisa's new Brad Paisley cd (which we told her we would gladly hold on to for her but she didn't like that very much...). Seeing as how we were there and she was still standing there, we thought a picture would be nice for the beginning of the road trip.
California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and finally into Ontario Canada.

We started driving on the Loneliest Road in America HWY 50. It was pretty lonely, but lots of scenery and mountains to see. We drove through Austin, Nevada and as we kept driving up the mountain we could see the whole town in the ravine - see to the right.
Once we entered Utah there was nothing for literally miles and miles and miles. We passed on service station after crossing the line and the sign said last service station for 83 miles.... Good thing we had lots of gas and the Honda was running good.

Driving for miles down this road, not another soul in sight, listening to bluegrass and old country music on the a.m radio station... Just take the car and road away, give us two horses and it would have seemed like a scene in a John Wayne movie.

We moved into Colorado from Utah. We stopped at one road stop and it was beautiful! The mountains, the river, the train tracks, the cold (do not let dad's shorts fool you, it was cold!)
We drove up the Rockies (the first time I have ever been there) and took a detour at the ski resort of Vale, Colorado for an hour or so to walk around. There were a lot of people there!
Dad bought a t-shirt that said "Got Oxygen?" and I bought a sweatshirt. Ha wannabes maybe, good memories yes :)

After Colorado we entered the more... flat states... Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana. In Indiana we thought we would take another short break and walk around at the famous Cabela's. We looked at all the animals that were stuffed around the store. Dad bought shoes. And we enjoyed a Bison deli sandwich. A fun excuse to stretch our legs.
We hit Michigan soon after and then crossed the border.

2,735 miles, 4 nights and 5 days.
We arrived home with a few pictures, no more dents in the car, a couple souvenirs, lots of coffee, and some good memories :)

  1. Wow, that is a lot of road trip. Congratulations on no dents in the car. It would be a shame to put a dent in your nice new car on your first trip.
